"Kallis is an alternative to African Leather"

While the "MP" collection focused on a mysterious destination, the "MP" collection now focuses on exploring the landscapes where leather is traditionally produced. John is guided by the intuition that leather is realized in certain ways in certain places. Isn't this also related to nomads? The indispensable companion for every journey, the faithful companion of every globetrotter, curious person and adventurer who sets out to discover the world, is his leather luggage. Against this figurative background, John has developed his own suitcase, which symbolically contains all the scents created for and by travelers. A true treasure chest for "olfactory tours".

If you associate leather with a particular object, it is probably the bag. In order not to rush into things, however, you should know that leather itself is part of a whole world of smells. A material that is often associated with animalistic elements and is sometimes limited to its strong side. But leather can also have a light, luminous, delicate side and it is precisely these differences in leather that fascinate John. From the raw material to the olfactory expression - the approach is similar: for some, leather reminds us of a second, protective skin, a hard shell, a dominant scent, a tar flower. For others, it is the softest skin, the most delicate fur, a sign of elegance, delicacy and sophistication. The range of leather is wide and so is its interpretation in perfumery.

You have to go back a little in history to understand the links between leather and perfume. In the 17th century, the glove trade was flourishing and, to mask the animal smell, leather was perfumed with the scent of sweet almonds, orange blossom, amber, rosemary and much more, according to the customer's wishes. The title of "master glove maker and perfumer" was born and the skills of this guild were highly valued at the royal court. The town of Grasse in France was famous for its tanneries and developed its expertise in perfume by cultivating its own flower fields to perfume the leather tanneries with their scent. But in the 18th century, with the emergence of competition and the fall in leather prices, this craft disappeared and Grasse became the capital of perfume.

Leather gave birth to perfume production. Even though this relationship once led a shadowy existence, it is now complete. What was once attempted to be covered up is now being developed and enhanced.

Leather inspires, asserts itself and enables fiery accords. The scent of leather is increasingly appreciated and is now obtained by combining it with raw materials such as styrax resin, labdanum, flower essences, oud, cassis blossom or synthetic materials such as Suderal, IBQ (Isobutyl Quinoléine).
For "Kallis" John has created his first leather work, "Irish Leather". A tribute to Ireland. Here, horse riding is carried out in a boundless nature. A chord that combines the grace of the horse with a strong nature. A green leather, a gallop through the grass. Other leather impressions will follow: a flowery leather, a lush leather. Strong visions. Beautiful places for an encounter.
